Build Review: Mack Metro Liner 8x4 WT30 20,000L Water Truck

Note: This build represents an earlier generation of our WT30 range. Our specification, finish and features have evolved significantly since — but the engineering fundamentals that made this build strong remain at the core of everything we deliver today.

The Mack Metro Liner is one of the most capable 8x4 platforms in the Australian heavy vehicle market. Paired with an Any Type Trucks WT30 water tank system at 20,000 litres, this build was designed for serious civil and earthworks applications — high-volume dust suppression on major haul roads and construction sites where a smaller truck simply cannot keep up.

The Platform — Mack Metro Liner 8x4

The Mack Metro Liner has a long track record in Australian civil and resources work. The 8x4 configuration provides the axle spread and load rating to suit a full 20,000L tank within applicable compliance limits — a configuration that a 6x4 platform would not typically accommodate at this capacity. It is a truck built for high gross mass operations, and that is exactly what this application demands.

Mack's reputation for durability in heavy haulage is well earned. Parts availability, dealer support and operator familiarity with the platform all factor into specification decisions for fleet operators — and the Metro Liner delivers on all three.

The Build — ATT WT30 20,000L Water Tank System

At 20,000 litres, this is a high-capacity civil spec build. The tank is fabricated from structural steel, fully baffled to control water surge under load — critical on a truck this heavy operating on rough access tracks and formed haul roads.

The spray system on this build is configured for broad-coverage dust suppression — rear dribble bar and side sprays for road maintenance and active suppression on site. PTO-driven pump for consistent, reliable flow in the field.

Every structural element on the tank is integrated into the body frame — this is not a tank bolted onto a tray. The load distribution is engineered into the body frame integration — which matters at 20,000 litres gross.

How Our Builds Have Evolved

We are proud of this build — it represents the solid engineering foundation that has always defined the WT30 range. But we have not stood still.

Current ATT WT30 builds feature improved finish quality, refined plumbing layouts, updated spray system configurations, and chassis-specific integration that reflects years of field feedback from operators running these trucks hard. The fundamentals are the same. The execution is sharper.

If you want to see what a current-generation WT30 looks like, we are happy to walk you through it.
